Johannesson elected President of Iceland for a second term
The current president of Iceland, Gudni Johannesson, won a landslide victory and was elected for a second term in the next presidential election held on June 27. This was reported on June 28 by the Icelandic television and radio company R V. According to journalists, in the presidential election 92.2% of voters cast their votes for Johannesson. It is noted that a total of 168,821 citizens participated in the vote, the turnout was 66.9%. Recall that the 52-year-old Johannesson was considered an absolute leader in the presidential election by experts. His competitor was businessman and politician Gudmundur Franklin Jonsson, who won only 7.8% of the vote on the eve of the presidential election. Johannesson is a historian by education, while studying at the university he studied Russian and German. Johannesson first became president of Iceland in 2016 at the age of 48, becoming the youngest head of state in the history of the country.
