As close as possible: Abe spoke about the almost concluded peace treaty

In 2018, at negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Tokyo managed to get as close as possible to concluding a peace treaty, said former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. According to him, he felt Putin's real readiness to conclude an agreement back in 2016. Among the reasons that prevented the parties from achieving the desired result, he called the aggravation of relations between Russia and the United States after the events in Ukraine.
